Wax Material. The infamous mobile record store from the heart of London, recently personified by Jessi who has adopted this moniker of her own creation.
Starting her career in the holy grail of dance music destinations, Ibiza, she soundtracked her way through a 4 year stint on the island bringing audiences across the balearic a blend of tech house, minimal and dub techno which allowed her to delve into the underground sounds of dance music which in turn sparked the inception of her musical identity.
Finding herself leaning heavily on the minimal aspect of her already fine tuned taste. Jessi took to Romania regularly attending festivals and events to drown in the unique sound of Ro-minimal where she found a likeminded network that presented the opportunity to flex her musical muscles to dance floors across Romania. Jessi’s infatuation with the country, its music and its people ultimately lead to her literal residence in the capital city of Bucharest which presented her with securing regular and lengthy sets with some of Romanias most talented artists in revered clubs such as Eden and numerous exclusive private venue parties. It was during this endeavour Jessi’s foundational sound was found.
Upon returning to London, Jessi turned her focus to Wax Material, a humble horse box lugged by an old trustee ford transit van transformed into a social hub of dance music culture solely cultivated by Jessi herself. The shop took London by surprise (literally) with it’s secretive and discretionary features in parties like BEEYOU, Art Of Dark, HOME, Keep On Going and E.S.P to name a few, its through these parties the unsuspecting van made appearances at venues such as Studio 338, 93 Feet East, The Lion & Lamb and many more.
Once Wax Material made its mark on London and the word had spread about the groovy musical mystery machine, interest peaked from further afield and the invites started flying in from venues all over the UK including Portsmouth, Manchester, Nottingham, Leeds & Wales. The most exciting of which, the festivals Gottwood, Summer of Love, The Hills Have Vibes and more. Festivals encapsulate the ethos of this van so intrinsically, people from all over the world in some cases coming together for the love of collecting sharing and trading records, creating relationships and memories that otherwise might not have happened without this outlet to draw them in.
It's through these experiences and the Wax Material Van which is worth its weight in gold Jessi has the ability to adapt to multiple genres, her specific style always airs on the side of minimal grooves keeping the low end cheeky with rude boy baselines all moving between silky stripped back house, minimal garage & 2 step, swung jazz and textural minimal through this unique blend of sonic excellence, spectators are often left in awe by her track selection. Wax Material possesses unparalleled musical knowledge which allows for her eclectic selection of styles which leaves dance floors mesmerised by the effortlessly tight score which is consistently shown by the hand of Wax Material.
